Ladies’ 1st XI Season Review with @natalie.hallam

We next caught up with one of our two Ladies’ 1s captains (alongside @_helenthompson) talking of battling through tough patches, and ultimately proving they belong at this level!

Moment of the Season 🏆

When we asked Natalie for the defining moment, she took us straight to @newcastlehockeyclub away.

“It was a must-win game for us… we knew it would be tough.”

From the first whistle, something clicked:

“We continued to fight for each other and showcased one of our strongest team performances to come away with a 2–1 win.”

A huge result, not just for the table, but for what it said about the team.

“I am immensely proud… and so grateful to those who travelled up to fight to stay in the league we deserve to play in. Thanks to Checkers for travelling and offering crucial coaching support.”

Best Game 🔥

For Natalie, that Newcastle game wasn’t just the biggest moment. It was the performance that summed them up.

Under pressure, away from home, with everything on the line it was “one of our strongest team performances.”

Toughest Opponent ⚔️

Interestingly, this one wasn’t about a single team, but instead was about a period.

Mid-November into February tested everything.

After a strong start, results dipped:
“We went from the 2nd November to the 7th Feb without a win.”

For a group used to winning (unbeaten at home through 2025) that was a real challenge.

But what stood out was how they handled it:
“Everyone was supportive and positive… we struggled through the losses together.”

When the win finally came, it meant everything:

“Beating Morpeth 3–2 at home… an even sweeter win for the @ellareid.x sibling rivalry.

Her summary says it all:
“There is no team I would rather win or lose with.” 🫶

Team MVP 💜
When it came to the unsung hero, Natalie didn’t hesitate.

“This has to go to @vossa.b, our keeper.”

Even through injury, she was always there:
“Every training, every game… even when she couldn’t play, she travelled and supported from the sidelines.”

After promotion, the goal was simple: stay in the YNE Prem.

It wasn’t always straightforward, but the group showed exactly what they’re made of!

Men’s 1st XI Season Review with @aidanfriskney (Soltan)

We caught up with Men’s 1st XI captain, Aidan, to look back on a huge season for the Men’s 1s as league winners, securing promotion to National League…back for the first time in 16 years.

Unsurprisingly, he kept coming back to the group and how tight it’s been all year…

Moment of the Season 🏆
When we asked about the standout moment, he didn’t hesitate. It was @cityofyorkhc Men’s 1s away for the final game of the season.

“The biggest moment is the one we spent all season working for… the final whistle away at York to confirm the league win.”

He said the fact it went down to the final game made it even better:

“We were pushed all the way… that’s what meant the most.”

Best Game 🔥
York away was right up there needing a win, under pressure, delivering when it mattered:

“We performed close to our very best that day.”

But he actually pointed to @stocktonhockeyclub away as the best overall performance:

“1–1 at half time, then 3 goals in 10 minutes and a 5-3 win in the end at a tough place to win.”

You could tell that one stuck with him!

Toughest Opponent ⚔️

No surprises here – @stocktonhockeyclub

Aidan was full of credit for Stockton:

“They never let us get comfortable… always backing themselves and keeping the pressure on.”

A proper title race, right to the end.

Team MVP 💜

When it came to individuals, he was quick to highlight a few.

@s_am.jones for the way he’s rallied the student group all season.

@alffletcher and @oliver.fih for coming in and making themselves key players straight away.

But in the end, one name stood out: “The top prize goes to Will Rowley.”

He spoke about his leadership, work rate, and everything he brings off the pitch too, even helping analyse games early in the season.

“A real leader… one of the big personalities in the team.”

When we asked him to sum the season up, Aidan brought it back to the same thing:

“It comes down to everyone… an awesome group this year.”

League winners. A fantastic team performance. National League next!!

This has been a season built on intensity, quality and togetherness — a team that has turned up week after week and delivered when it mattered most!

Winning the league is one thing.
Winning it having only lost one game all season is something else!

Massive congratulations to every player, captain, coach and supporter who has been part of the journey.

After a fantastic season of hard work, grit and great team performances, the team has earned promotion based on points per game across the regional leagues — and they’ve done enough to make it count!

Every point mattered this year, and the squad showed incredible consistency and determination from the first pushback to the final whistle.

It’s a brilliant achievement and thoroughly deserved for a team that has worked relentlessly all season.

Our Ladies’ 3rd XI have officially been crowned champions of the Yorkshire North East Peak Women’s Division 1! 💙

Week after week this squad has shown incredible commitment, teamwork and determination — and it has paid off in the best possible way. From tough away fixtures to big performances at home, every player has played their part in an unforgettable season.

To finish top of the league is a huge accomplishment and a real testament to the spirit in this group.

Massive congratulations to all the players, captains and supporters who have backed the team all season long.
