    Men’s 3rd XI Season Review 🏑🔥
    ✍️ @danielmckemey

We caught up with the Men’s 3s skipper, Danjo, to reflect on a tough season and one that didn’t quite go to plan, but still had its moments.

Not every year is about results. Sometimes it’s about sticking together, finding the positives, and laying the groundwork for what comes next and this group did just that.

    Moment of the Season 🏆

A couple of highlights stood out.

A chaotic 4–4 thriller against @sheffieldhockeyclub showed exactly what this team can do when it clicks in wha was one of those proper end-to-end games.

And then there was the away day at City of York…
meeting @ramostheslamos might not win any league points, but it’s definitely up there for the memories.

Race Night gets a mention too us always a highlight, whatever the season looks like.

    Best Game 🔥

That 4–4 game definitely gets the nod.

End-to-end, plenty of goals, and one of those days where things just came together and a reminder of what the team is capable of.

    Toughest Opponent ⚔️

There were some strong sides across the league this year, with teams bringing real quality and making every game a proper test.

You had to be at it every week.

    Team MVP 💜

A big shoutout to @salih_gajoum for this one.

Through a difficult season, he’s been a constant, keeping things going, keeping standards up, and helping the group push through the tough moments.

That kind of presence matters more than ever in a year like this.

It might not have been the season they wanted, but there’s still something to take from it.

A group that kept turning up.
    Kept competing.
    And stuck together.

    We go again!

Ladies’ 3rd XI Season Review 🏑🔥
    ✍️ @vicky_frosty

We caught up with Vicky, co-captain alongside @georginger98, of the Ladies’ 3s to look back on a brilliant season for the Ladies’ 3s. It was a campaign full of goals, tight competition at the top, and a team that kept delivering when it mattered.

    Moment of the Season 🏆

For Vicky, it goes right back to the start.

“Starting the season with a 5–0 win away at Grasshoppers was a real highlight and set the tone.”

A result that gave the group real belief early on:
“It gave us high ambitions and confidence with our new coach Mick and some new players.”

    Best Game 🔥

    Doncaster Independent away had everything.

“We went 2–0 up… but had a rough time and expected to be winning by more.”

When it went back to 2–2, it felt like it might slip:
“It felt like we weren’t going to pull it out of the bag…”

    But the response was huge:

“In the final 20 minutes we hit the backboard another 3 times to secure the 3 points.”

A massive win to go clear at the top with one game left.

    Toughest Opponent ⚔️

A tight league all season, but Leopold stood out.

“With us, @chapeltownhockeyclub , @barnsleyhockeyclub , @sheffieldhockeyclub and Leopold all in the mix.”

Leopold handed out a tough lesson at home:
“We lost 3–2 and struggled to gel against their organisation.”

    But the response?
“We came back and beat them 5–0 away… with level heads and a great team performance.”

    Team MVP 💜

    Plenty of standout performances.

@_jessmitchelll picked up the most POTMs, while @nikki.hilton was close behind
“keeping clean sheets and driving our goal difference.”

Up top, the goals flowed too — with @joanne_woolley , @m0lly_barrettx, @hana_horsefield and Vicky all hitting double figures (we think 👀).

A season full of goals, consistency, and plenty of “Mick specials” (+5 wins 😄).

Top of the league! Role on next season!

  • There’s something pretty special on the horizon…

There’s something pretty special on the horizon for SUBHC… and it’s shaping up to be a huge weekend for the club down at Lee Valley.

On Saturday 2nd May, our Men’s O35s step out in the National O35 Vase Final a brilliant achievement and a real testament to the strength and depth of hockey across the club.

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Sunday 3rd May sees our Men’s 1s take on Jersey HC in the Tier 2 Trophy Final. After the season they’ve had, it feels like a fitting stage and a proper opportunity to go and cap it off in style.

We’d absolutely love to get as many Bankers down there as possible to support. Big days like this don’t come around often, and having a strong crowd behind the teams would mean a lot.

🎟️ Tickets are available here if you fancy making the trip:
    https://shop.ticketing.cm.com/englandhockey/c61298b6-1e32-4390-915e-ca6fc2385ec1

We’re also exploring the option of putting on a coach for the Sunday final to make things easier (and more fun!). If you’d be keen on jumping on that, get in touch with @s.cw_1111 so we can get a sense of numbers and sort the logistics. Please get in touch with Sam by the end of Sunday to register interest!

Two teams. Two finals. One big weekend.

    Let’s get behind them 💙🏑

    SUBHC Official Announcement

Following two tremendously impactful seasons, Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club are proud to share an exciting update that reflects both our recent success and our ambition for what comes next.

Across the past two years, the club has seen remarkable on-pitch achievements, with our Ladies’ 1st XI, Men’s 1st XI and Men’s 2nd XI all securing league titles and earning promotion as champions. This is a testament to the commitment, culture and performance standards that continue to define Bankers hockey.

At the heart of that journey has been @mattgodden .

We are therefore delighted to announce that Matt has been promoted from Performance Teams Head Coach to Director of Performance Hockey.

In this new role, Matt will take on a more strategic position within the club, overseeing our performance programme across all sides, supporting and developing our coaching team, and ensuring that our Bankers style of play, identity and standards are embedded consistently throughout the club.

This marks an exciting step forward as we continue to build not just successful teams, but a clear and sustainable performance pathway that connects every level of the club.

We’re hugely excited for what this next chapter holds under Matt’s leadership and just as importantly, what it means for the continued growth and success of SUBHC.

More exciting announcements around our coaching setup for next season will be shared in the coming days and weeks… so watch this space 👀

Ladies’ 2nd XI Season Review 🏑🔥
    ✍️ @izz_allen

Next it as the turn of Ladies’ 2nd XI captain, Izzy, to look back on a brilliant season for the Ladies’ 2s. Promotion secured, and a team that just kept going all year.

Right from the start, she summed it up in one word: “tenacity”.

“So many players helped towards this twos promotion and everyone gave it 100%.”

They knew how tight it would be at the top, and it showed:

“Everyone fought hard for every goal and point.”

    Moment of the Season 🏆

For Izzy, it wasn’t just one moment but two that really stood out.

“Beating Alford at home was definitely a good day…”

    And then the big one:

“…winning the last game of the season and knowing we secured promotion was pretty sweet.”

    Job done.

    Best Game 🔥

That Alford game gets another mention and for good reason.

Big rivals, big performance, and getting it done at home when it mattered.

    Toughest Opponent ⚔️

    No hesitation here – @alford_hockey_club

“They were our biggest rivals having come down into this league with us…”

    But the best bit?
“…we never lost to them” 💪🏻

    Team MVP 💜

Plenty of standout performances across the team.

A special mention for Lily and @erinanglim

    “a goal scoring machine.”

But one name stood out for Izzy:
“Our MVP has to be @bethabsolon … cool, calm and collected.”

“Always felt safe with her behind us!”

A proper team effort from start to finish. Hard work. Big moments. Promotion secured!

    Up they go. 💜

    Men’s 2nd XI Season Review 🏑🔥
    ✍️ @_paul.roberts_

We next caught up with Men’s 2s skipper Paul Roberts (Ched) after a huge year! League winners, promoted, and a group that’s properly earned it.

You could tell what it meant straight away:
“I am a proud man. Proud to lead this group of fantastic young men… it’s been tough over the last couple of years, but we’ve got what we deserved. UTB.”

They did it in style too with a 12-game unbeaten run to clinch the title, and even more impressively:
“We went unbeaten away from home… which in our league is a very tough thing to do.”

    Moment of the Season 🏆

Paul went right back to early in the season and a moment that grew in importance:

“Sam Chow last minute winner vs @rotherhamhockeyclub … to win the game 3–2.”

“It felt big at the time… with some class celebrations after.”

Looking back, it might just have won them the title.

    Best Game 🔥

Rotherham again in what was a proper test.

“They’ve developed massively… scored many more goals than us.”

So going there and grinding it out mattered:
“The 1–0 away was huge… outstanding from the back four and Peter Clark to keep the clean sheet.”

    Toughest Opponent ⚔️

    No debate – Rotherham.

It was a proper South Yorkshire battle with them and @chapeltownhockeyclub all season.

“Congratulations to Rotherham on a fantastic season.”

    Team MVP 💜

Paul was clear – this was about the squad:
“Everyone has played a massive part.”

    But a few shoutouts:
@_sglawrence – “tenacity at its best.”
@s.cw_1111 – “Mr consistent… always on the phone, analysing games.”
    Peter Clark – “always dependable.”
Dickers – “bagging goals for fun.”

Plus the new lads — @daniel_mb88, @_joe_wood_24 , @oliver.fih — all “essential to our progression.”

And Jay: “our 13-year-old wonderkid… playing with more maturity than most.”

Jonny Clark’s return also added “balance and composure to a very young squad.”

A proper team effort. Young, hungry, and deservedly champions.

League winners. UTB. 💜 Role on next Season!

  • Ladies’ 1st XI Season Review with @natalie.hall…

Ladies’ 1st XI Season Review with @natalie.hallam

We next caught up with one of our two Ladies’ 1s captains (alongside @_helenthompson) talking of battling through tough patches, and ultimately proving they belong at this level!

    Moment of the Season 🏆

When we asked Natalie for the defining moment, she took us straight to @newcastlehockeyclub away.

“It was a must-win game for us… we knew it would be tough.”

From the first whistle, something clicked:

“We continued to fight for each other and showcased one of our strongest team performances to come away with a 2–1 win.”

A huge result, not just for the table, but for what it said about the team.

“I am immensely proud… and so grateful to those who travelled up to fight to stay in the league we deserve to play in. Thanks to Checkers for travelling and offering crucial coaching support.”

    Best Game 🔥

For Natalie, that Newcastle game wasn’t just the biggest moment. It was the performance that summed them up.

Under pressure, away from home, with everything on the line it was “one of our strongest team performances.”

    Toughest Opponent ⚔️

Interestingly, this one wasn’t about a single team, but instead was about a period.

    Mid-November into February tested everything.

After a strong start, results dipped:
“We went from the 2nd November to the 7th Feb without a win.”

For a group used to winning (unbeaten at home through 2025) that was a real challenge.

But what stood out was how they handled it:
“Everyone was supportive and positive… we struggled through the losses together.”

When the win finally came, it meant everything:

“Beating Morpeth 3–2 at home… an even sweeter win for the @ellareid.x sibling rivalry.

    Her summary says it all:
“There is no team I would rather win or lose with.” 🫶

    Team MVP 💜
When it came to the unsung hero, Natalie didn’t hesitate.

“This has to go to @vossa.b, our keeper.”

Even through injury, she was always there:
“Every training, every game… even when she couldn’t play, she travelled and supported from the sidelines.”

After promotion, the goal was simple: stay in the YNE Prem.

It wasn’t always straightforward, but the group showed exactly what they’re made of!
